How Give.Gives works
Give.Gives is a charitable resale platform: neighbors donate items, partner locations sell them, and about 78% of every sale goes to the local organization or campaign that location supports.
Donate
List an item on Give.Gives with a few photos, choose a partner location, then drop it off there. Items that cannot be sold safely are declined during listing.
Sell
The location displays the item on its shelf and online. The price drops 50% every price cycle (7 days unless the location sets its own schedule) until it reaches the $2 price floor. After that the item becomes a free pickup item that anyone can claim.
Fund
When the item sells, about 78% of the price goes to the organization or campaign that location supports, 10% stays with the location that hosted it, and 12% covers Give.Gives operations and card fees. Every payout is published in the monthly ledger.
Frequently asked questions
Is Give.Gives a thrift store?
Not quite. Give.Gives is a charitable resale platform. Items are donated by neighbors, sold on shelves inside partner locations such as cafés, shops and offices, and about 78% of each sale is paid to the local organization or campaign that location supports. Giving items a second life is part of it; funding local organizations is the point.
Where does the money go?
Each sale follows a published split: about 78% to the organization or campaign the location supports, 10% to the location that hosts the shelf, and 12% to Give.Gives for operations and card fees. Sales tax is collected for the state. The exact split is shown before you pay, and every monthly payout is listed in the public ledger at give.gives/impact.
How do I donate an item?
Create a free account, add photos and a short description, pick a partner location, and drop the item off there. The sale is credited to the organization or campaign that location supports.
How are prices set?
Items are listed below typical resale value so they sell quickly. From then on the price drops 50% every price cycle (7 days unless the location sets its own schedule) until it reaches the $2 price floor. At the floor the item becomes a free pickup item.
What is free pickup?
An item that reached the price floor without selling becomes free. Claim it online, collect it at the location, then confirm pickup from your order. Free pickup items are first come, first served.
Do I need an account to buy?
No. You can check out as a guest with an email address for your receipt and order code. Donating an item requires a free account.
What if the item is not at the location when I arrive?
Items can still be in transit from the donor. If an item you paid for is not at the location, request a full refund through Feedback from your order page.
Can my organization receive funding?
Yes. Nonprofits and mission-driven organizations apply at give.gives/ngo/apply. Applications are reviewed within 48 hours. Partner locations choose which organization or campaign their sales support, and payouts are settled monthly to an account in the organization's name.
Can my business host a shelf?
Yes. Brands with physical locations apply at give.gives/brand/apply. One account covers every location. You host donated items, keep a share of each sale, and the rest funds the organization you choose.
Where can I verify the numbers?
The public ledger at give.gives/impact lists payouts by month, split by organization and campaign, with refunds recorded as reversals.
